Iran has arrested four members of a Sunni Islamic rebel group in southeastern of the country, the official IRNA news agency reported on August 12.
The rebels detained in the southeastern city of Zahedan were members of the "terrorist" Jundallah (Soldiers of God) group led by Abdolmalek Rigi, the report quoted a statement issued by Iran's intelligence ministry.
"The intelligence office of Sistan-Balouchestan province succeeded in detecting and arresting four members of a terrorist team belonging to this group," the statement was quoted as saying.
"This terrorist group intended to plot differences among Muslims, especially between Sunnis and Shiites of the province, by bombing several pre-located areas," said the statement.
In an operation of the intelligence forces, "a considerable quantity of explosives and weapons were found and seized," said the statement.
The Jundallah group, claiming to be fighting for the rights of Sunni Muslims in Iran, has constantly been blamed for offenses, deadly bombings and kidnappings in southeastern Iran at the borderzone with Pakistan.
Tehran has constantly asked the Pakistani security officials to cooperate with Iran's police to track the hideouts of the Jundallah group.
