Vietnamese Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan Tuesday met with a Chinese delegation of veterans who served in Vietnamese wars against French and U.S. invaders decades ago.

The delegation came to Vietnam on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, a decisive battle in the Vietnamese war against French invaders, as well as the 34th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam.

Headed by Jing Dunquan, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association For Friendship With Foreign Countries, the delegation consists of war veterans and former war advisors. They are on a one-week visit to Vietnam.

During the meeting, Doan hailed the non-governmental exchange between Vietnam and China and said she expected the two countries could increase such exchanges and cooperation to advance the friendly cooperative ties.

Doan said Vietnam and China are good neighbors and the two peoples have a long friendship. Last year, bilateral ties were lifted to a new level of all-round strategic cooperative partnership.

She believed the visit will further deepen the friendship between the two peoples and push forward the bilateral ties.

Jing said Chinese people and Vietnamese people have traditional friendship. He expected the young generations of the two countries could carry on the friendship and make more contributions to the development of bilateral friendly ties.

Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh also met with the delegation on Tuesday. Thanh said Vietnamese people will always remember the support provided by Chinese people during Vietnamese war against foreign invaders.

In recent years, Vietnam and Chinese have conducted fine cooperation in military fields, including joint patrol on the sea, border exchanges and military student exchanges.

Thanh also expected the two sides could continue to strengthen cooperation and make joint contribution to the regional and world peace, stability and development.
