Singapore low-cost carrier Jetstar will make its first flight to Haikou, the capital of China's Hainan Province, local media reported on August 25.

According to TV broadcaster Channel NewsAsia, the carrier will fly four times a week between Singapore and Haikou from December.

Currently, Jetstar Asia only offers double daily flights from Singapore to China's Hong Kong and up to five times a week to China's Macao.

The carrier's chief executive officer Chong Phit Lian said that Haikou had long been in the carrier's sights for both its appeal to the large Hainanese community living in Singapore and the broader group of Asian holiday makers.

This is Jetstar's 19th destination from Singapore, and the carrier said that it's looking at expansion in the Chinese market.
