A branch of the notorious al-Qaida organization in the North Africa claimed responsibility for the two suicide bombings that took place in Algeria, pan-Arab satellite TV al-Jazeera reported on Sunday September 9th.

The TV report quoted a web statement by the organization, the al-Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb, as confirming that it was the group which launched the two deadly attacks on September 6th and 8th.

However, the statement did not give details about the attacks.

A suicide bombing rocked Saturday the Mediterranean port town of Dellys, 100 km east of the capital of Algiers, leaving at least 30 people dead and 47 others injured. The attack was the second to hit the country in three days.

Another suicide bombing attack struck the eastern Algerian city of Batna Thursday, killing 22 people and wounding 107 others.
