BEIJING, Aug. 21 -- Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan held talks with his Argentinian counterpart Nilda Garre here on Tuesday August 21st.

Garre started her China tour on Sunday and she is the first Argentinian defense minister to visit China since the two countries established diplomatic ties.

Cao spoke highly of the development of bilateral state and military relations, saying China values its ties with Argentina and believes their partnership will forge ahead.

China will step up high-level visits and exchanges between young military officers and promote cooperation in personnel training with Argentina, Cao said.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern.

Garre said Argentina appreciates China's support and assistance over the years and will work with China in deepening cooperation between the two armed forces.

Argentina adheres to the one-China policy and opposes "Taiwan independence", and supports China's efforts in preparing for the Olympics and Shanghai World Expo, she said.
