Beijing Int'l Aviation Expo opens

More than 200 Chinese and foreign aviation companies from 14 countries and regions have gathered at the Beijing International Aviation Expo, which opened Wednesday. China's domestically built jumbo jet C919 is a highlight of the expo.

More than 200 Chinese and foreign aviation companies from 14 countriesand regions have gathered at the Beijing International Aviation Expo.

This is a scale model of China's first domestically manufactured large commercial airliner C919. It represents the latest progress for China in jumbo jet manufacturing.

The C919 has a capacity of 168 seats for the full economy class version and 156 seats for the mixed class version. It's expected to enter service in 2016. The jetliner's manufacturer is confident about the market prospects.

Wu Guanghui, Chief Designer of C919, Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China said "Talking about advantages we have, First, we have a very big market. Second, we have adopted a lot of new and advanced technologies. Third, we have the first class suppliers internationally. Another advantage is that we have the full support of China's aviation industry."

China's domestically manufactured civil and military aircraft are exhibited at the expo. The MA60, China's main export aircraft, has received 130 orders since entering the market five years ago.But its exporter acknowledges the severe impact from the global financial crisis and says their strategy is to improve their services.
