The South Korean government said Tuesday that it will set up a 50-billion-won, or 38.1-million-U.S.dollar, food-industry promotion fund to globalize South Korean cuisine.

During its international symposium, Korea Cuisine to the World 2009, the South Korean Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries announced the government's strategies to globalize the nation's traditional cuisine.

According to the ministry, it plans to increase investment in food industry to 50 billion won, or 38.1 U.S. dollars, by 2013 to beef up the nation's food industry.

The government is also moving to enact the so-called Food Service Industry Promotion Bill, which aims at providing financial aid and staff training to food service businesses, the ministry said.

Also, the ministry will closely cooperate with world-renowned culinary arts schools, such as Le Cordon Bleu of France, to expand Korean cuisine classes in overseas cooking schools, it added.

The ministry said it will further discuss details on its food-globalization strategy with related ministries and will finalize it in May.
