A total of 24,296 undocumented Guatemalan citizens in the United States have been deported by the U.S. authorities so far this year, news from Guatemala City said on Tuesday.
The deported Guatemalan citizens included 21,265 men, 2,512 women and 519 children, the General Direction of Migration from Guatemala (DMG) said on Tuesday, adding that the U.S. authorities had deported 931 men, 84 women and 29 children from Guatemala this month.
The most recent group of 39 people deported from California arrived in Guatemala on Monday, the DMG said.
According to the Guatemalan government, about 60 percent of some 1.2 million Guatemalan citizens living in the United States do not have legal migration documents.
