China's industry: the mainstay of development

In 1956, the first truck rolled off the assembly line under the Jiefang brand. The total sales volume of home-made vehicles in 2009 has topped the world for seven months in a row.

In 1958, the first black and white TV set was developed. So far, China is the world's largest colored TV producer.

In the 1950s, the landline telephone service only covered some large cities in east China. Nowadays, China has the world's largest number of telephone and Internet users.

Thanks to unremitting efforts, China has established a modern industrial system and some of homemade industrial products have been among the world's top standard. Moreover, "Made in China" is now famed the world over. By the end of 2008, 210 kinds of homemade industrial products have led the world in output.

From "atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and manmade satellite" to Shenzhou seven spacecraft; from Downing computer that can calculate 10 million times in a second to TD-SCDMA, the 3G mobile telecommunications standard China developed ¡­ China has achieved amazing breakthroughs in terms of manned space flight, carrier rocket, lunar exploration as well as satellite navigation.

Meanwhile, domestic industrial structure, especially the strategic position of heavy industry, also experienced steady improvement and upgrade. So far, high-tech industries such as information, aviation and space technology, bio-pharmaceutical industry as well as new material have ranked third worldwide, becoming the new growth powerhouses for China's economic development.

Ensuring rapid development with Chinese characteristics

On July 15, 1953, thousands of Chinese workers came to Changchun, a city in Northeast China's Jilin Province and set up the first base for China's auto industry. Three years later, the first homemade truck rolled off the assembly line under the Jiefang brand.
