Over 2010 and 2011, 3,578 officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) were punished for taking bribes, according to an announcement by the CPC's discipline watchdog on Monday.

The officials were found illegally receiving some 392 million yuan (62.7 million U.S. dollars), said a statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of Supervision.

In the meantime, 83,195 officials voluntarily reported and surrendered to the authorities bribes with a worth of 771 million yuan, said the statement, citing incomplete statistics.

It attributed the result to the outcome of the successful implementation of an internal anti-corruption regulation introduced in Jan. 2010, which provides 52 don'ts for senior parity officials.

The statement also briefed on the execution of a separate policy which required senior officials to report information on aspects including their estates, investments and the employment status of their immediate family.

Over one million officials at or above county chief level had finished reporting by the end of 2011, including all senior officials directly administered by the CPC Central Committee, said the statement.

The 2012 reporting is currently pushing forward in an orderly manner, it added.
