China and Germany have held their 3rd foreign minister-level strategic dialogue in Beijing. They pledged to work together to promote China-Europe ties.

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi noted this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. And China and Germany have made tremendous progress in their relations over the past four decades. Yang proposed that the two sides should increase high-level contacts and communication in all fields and strengthen political mutual trust.

He also said the two sides should implement the results of the second round of Sino-German government talks, expand mutual investment and the scale of bilateral trade and make joint efforts to fight against trade protectionism. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said China’s development had brought promising prospects for cooperation between the two countries.

Germany is willing to boost bilateral relations to a higher level along with China. Yang and Westerwelle on Thursday also signed a statement of intent to build a closer cooperation between the two foreign ministries.
