Second, and equally important, China is also defending the authoritativeness and principles of the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation. The two historical documents are the hard-won fruits of the victory of the extremely bloody anti-fascist war. They have helped ensure world peace and security, and prevent the revival of militarism.
For these reasons, although the United States is actually in support of Japan’s arrogant attitude toward China, saying that the “U.S.-Japan Security Treaty” is suitable for the Diaoyu Islands issue, it cannot and dares not claim it to the world and even falsely “persuades” Japan to be cautious on the issue.
The essence of the Diaoyu Islands issue is the resurgence of Japanese militarism and the misjudgment of Japanese politicians. The United States continues to send wrong signals to Japan to embolden it. Vice President Xi Jinping had said when meeting with U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta that the United States should remind Japan to stop its irrational acts and keep cautious on the words and deeds. Chinese people hate and oppose wars and desire a peaceful development and cooperation. However, if any country considers China weak and infringes its core interests, it will fall on evil days. Japan’s Yoshihiko Noda and Shintaro Ishihara certainly knew the history of Asia since the Second World War and so should remain cautious in their words and deeds.
