China defends sovereignty, justice on Diaoyu Islands issue

The United States does not recognize Japan’s sovereignty over the Diaoyu Islands, according to a recent U.S. congressional report. Hong Lei, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in response that the United States should walk the talk regarding the territorial dispute between China and Japan.

Many countries have expressed their attitudes toward the Diaoyu Islands dispute. While current Japanese leaders are willfully distorting history, almost none of other countries have shown support for Japan’s claim to the islands. Even its backer, the United States, has adopted a policy of strategic ambiguity on this issue, and told it to act cautiously.

Why is that? Because Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, and most politicians in Washington know clearly that China has full rights and duties to defend the Diaoyu Islands.

First, the Diaoyu Islands are an inherent part of Chinese territory, which is an indisputable fact supported by extensive historical evidence. China has the determination, will, and ability to defend its territory and sovereignty.
