The 11th Panchen Lama, a Tibetan Buddhism spiritual leader, has successfully ended his one-month activities in Tibet Autonomous Region.
The Panchen Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, visited the Tashilhunpo monastery, where he paid homage and presented his own hada to statues of Buddhas. He also led a sutra-chanting service with more than 800 lamas, praying for prosperity. At his residence in the city of Xigaze, the Panchen Lama blessed 13-thousand followers in a head-touching ritual.
And held a symposium with 57 representatives from different sects of Tibetan Buddhism. The Panchen Lama gave his well-wishes to villagers in their homes during a visit to Thonga village in Lhasa. And also visited children in a welfare home in Xigaze.
The Panchen Lama is vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, and a member of the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the country’s top political advisory body.
