Chinese Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu has urged local police to improve the way they serve the public.

Meng, also China's State Councilor, made the remarks during a recent investigation tour in northwest China's Qinghai Province.

The police should enhance their capacity to maintain social order, dissolve conflicts, and serve the people from all ethnic groups. They should also look to foster a harmonious relationship with the public, Meng said.

He called on the police to update the way they carry out their work, innovate mechanism, and apply updated technologies in order to crack down on crimes more effectively. Meng also wants local police to improve their capabilities in emergency response and keeping social stability.
