Overseas returnees are mainly seeking jobs in public institutions, accounting for 43.2 percent, according to a blue book jointly released by the Center for China & Globalization and Guanghua School of Management of Peking University on Monday.

Those entering the private sector make up 16.1 percent while State-owned enterprises claim 13.6 percent.

The blue book emphasized that returnees swarm to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong. This may seem more lucrative but will intensify competition for jobs and salaries.

Furthermore, 30 percent of returnees work in university and scientific research institutions. This focus is geared toward the service industry, bio-engineering, manufacturing, new energy and information technology.

With a preference for large companies, 35.8 percent of returnees engage in research and development and 12.4 percent of them work in sales and marketing.

The blue book suggests that for returnees who have no work experience, having the right attitude is paramount. They should rapidly familiarize themselves with the domestic employment situation and seize every opportunity, even if the position and salary are not up to their expectations.
