A 13-year-old boy who was badly injured after two coworkers shoved an air pump up his anus and inflated him on was sent to Beijing Bayi Children's Hospital for further treatment on Thursday with the help of the Angel Mom Organization and is now out of danger, the Beijing News reports.
Du Chuanwang worked as an apprentice in an auto repair shop in Dezhou, Shandong province. On the morning of June 30, two coworkers in the shop put an electric air pump into his anus and turned it on.
A doctor told reporters that the boy's body, including his belly, arms and legs was as tight as a drum. When the doctor cut a hole in the boy's belly to let the air out, his body hissed like a deflating tire.
The medical diagnosis showed that there are nearly 30 holes in the boy's large intestine and small intestine. In addition, several vital organs were damaged including his liver.
Du was in a coma for eight days after surgery and is currently living on an intravenous infusion.
The incident aroused the attention of Internet users. On the afternoon of July 11, the volunteer organization Angel Mom contacted the boy's father and Beijing Emergency Medical Center in order to help Du with further treatment.
At Beijing Bayi Children's Hospital, Zhang Lei, a doctor from Beijing Emergency Medical Center said that the boy's blood oxygen, blood pressure and heart rate are normal and he is now out of danger.
As of Thursday, there were 390,000 yuan in donations for Du following appeals by Angel Mom and another 100,000 yuan from Shandong citizens was given to his father.
Captain Xu of the Public Security Bureau Brigade in Xiajin County, Shandong province said that the two coworkers are under criminal detention.
"They said they just were playing a prank on the boy and didn't realize there would be such severe results. Otherwise they said they would never have done it in the first place."
