JERUSALEM, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Several people were injured Wednesday morning when dozens of rockets and mortar shells were fired into southern Israel by militants in the Gaza Strip, and the Israel Air Force was retaliating for the rocket fire, Israeli media reported.
Among the injured are foreign workers in a kibbutz in the Eshkol area in southern Israel, and both are in serious conditions, the report said.
One of the injured is a border policeman and a number of others are hysteria victims, it said.
Some 30 rockets and mortar shells have landed in Sderot, Ashkelon and other areas in southern Israel and sirens sounded all over southern Israel, the report said, adding that residents were ordered to remain in shelters even if no sirens sounding.
The Israeli military has not yet made any comments on the latest round of exchange of fire near the Gaza border.
