China’s State Council is planning to set up a social credit supervision system to rein the booming trend of fraud in each corner of the society, the Beijing Times reported Thursday quoting Xinhua.

An information network will be introduced to track every detailed credit record of government departments, enterprises, individuals and other social bodies, in a bid to keep a tight watch on fraudulence, and especially, to protect the interest of honest people, the report said.

Government bodies are urged to take a lead in this effort by increasing the transparency of government-related affairs.

The introduction of social credit system, echoing the public discontent over the decline of social credit over the past few years, is put on agenda out of the concern that discredit is damaging social justice and halting the nation’s development.

A string of credit scandals broke out and sparked public anger in recent years, including media revelations of poisoned dairy products in 2008, the plagiarism phenomenon in the academic circle, the abuse of additives in food processing industry and the scandal of “Da Vinci” furniture in July, the latest one within public memories.
